We launch! (Kinda.)

I know it's March.  But you, like me, probably understand being busy.  I think I set my sights higher than I could achieve for this site, but there is so many exciting things happening in the world of post production that I just HAD to get this site up. So... consider FCPGuru's new site a BETA for now.  I will focus on posting news articles, links to some good tips and discussions.  And I'll continue to add here and there as time goes on.  Even the theme needs work.  But, as I've always said.  It's not always how it looks, it's the content that makes it shine.  Hopefully in that department, I won't disappoint.

So, sign up for the mailing list (newsletter also coming soon!) fire up FCP, and get back to work.

The move to FCPX

There has been much debate about this topic all over the internet and I don't want to be one to stoke the fire.  Coming here, you either 1) want to learn more or 2) want to talk me out of using FCPX.  Either way, you already know which basket I've decided to place my eggs in.

I've always said it's about the editor and not the tools.  Much of what I teach in my workshops has to do with the principles of editing as well as how to use the tool to tell a story.  It is for this reason I truly enjoy editing with FCPX.  It's a tool that gets out of the way and lets me try things with minimal effort.  I can focus on creating, rather than fighting technology.  Of course, for many of us used to old NLE editors, we are constantly fighting with FCPX while trying to break years of muscle memory.  But I found that once I put all those notions aside and just started focusing on what the tool was meant to do, editing came very quickly and was a lot more fun.

For now, I'm here.  And I look forward to the future.  Feel free to ask me about my set up and workflow in the comments.  I will say that I've used FCPX for 3 paying gigs so far and am lining up several more.
